One month after the reduction, serious consequences
Since the MIVB's decision to reduce the Taxibus service by 30%, the consequences for people with disabilities have already been serious.
The CAWaB has received dozens of testimonies from users and associations facing great difficulties:
-
It is impossible to book a ride, even several days in advance.
-
During peak hours, time slots are fully booked within a few hours.
-
Organizing trips has become practically impossible.
- Result: many people are denied access to medical, professional, or social appointments.
Emerging inequalities in access
The Taxibus online booking site remains inaccessible with Voice Over, excluding blind and visually impaired people.
They have no choice but to book by phone… but the online opened time slots are available earlier than those by phone.
➡️ A double discrimination for an already vulnerable audience exposed to the digital divide.
Moreover, the announced limit of 60 rides per person per month is only a theoretical upper limit: in reality, the overall ride quota is often reached much earlier by the MIVB, making any additional bookings impossible.
Dialogue blocked with the MIVB
On August 27, 2025, CAWaB and Unia met with MIVB management for an evaluation meeting.
-
The associations denounced a brutal and disproportionate decision made without consultation.
-
The MIVB acknowledged the difficulties but proposed no adjustment measures or alternatives to support users.
-
Requests for a gradual transition and a strengthened budget were rejected.
A necessary mobilization
Given this deadlock, CAWaB and Unia urgently request the regional authorities (Ministers Van den Brandt and Vervoort, COCOF, COCOM, VGC, Brussels Mobility and MIVB) to come together to find solutions.
The goal is clear: to guarantee accessible, reliable, and fair mobility again for all people with disabilities.
